Transportation uses a lot of oil. Your vehicle not only needs to be filled with oil-based petroleum gasoline to run, but its motor also requires oil to operate properly. According to Environment Canada, in 2011, the oil combusted in transportation was responsible for 24.21% of Canada’s total Greenhouse Gas emissions. That’s 170 metric tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) that our cars and trucks are pumping into the air. By carpooling, you get to not only sing a-long to your favourite songs on the radio with a buddy, but by sharing a ride with at least one other person, you are taking one car off the road for one day’s commute. That’s an emissions savings of 280 grams (g) of CO2 per kilometer per car. Now that’s something to sing about! Learn more about Canada’s Emission Trends , Car Pool Challenge , and Car Poll
